Welcome to the Nelson Bostock Unlimited EDIT, our Friday afternoon newsletter packed with all the weird and wonderful things we’ve discussed, admired and frequented this week.
WHAT’S CAUGHT OUR EYE
Data privacy is a topic which is fraught and not a week goes by without a negative story. That’s why we’ve really enjoyed Spotify’s work with Biffy Clyro. Using Spotify analytics, the band identified 500 superfans and rewarded them with a limited edition vinyl pressing of a Spotify live session. While there’s the usual debate in the office about which era of Biffy Clyro is best, we’re all agreed it’s really simple both in terms of the mechanism and the reward, and that’s what makes it stand out for us. Great work all round.
We all know that debates over how to make the best juice drink have been raging for centuries. Well this week it finally boiled over. US start-up Juciero, which sells Wi-Fi connected juicing machines for £310, has had to offer refunds after the expensive gadget was mocked on social media. A Bloomberg investigation found that you can get the same amount of juice from squeezing the bespoke Juciero bags of fruit and veg with your bare hands as you can with the high tech juicer. Juciero CEO Jeff Dunn has hit back claiming the ‘hacking’ of pouches did not produce the same quality of juice, saying the machine was calibrated to deal with different ingredients differently. Who would have thought squeezing orange juice could be so controversial!
ONE TO WATCH
The 2017 EMEA SABRE Awards shortlist was revealed this week, and from more than 2,400 entries we’re really proud to have been nominated for TWO GOLD AWARDS! Our Canon team has been shortlisted for its Wider Image campaign, where they worked with world-renowned Reuters photojournalists and followed them in pursuit of inspiring stories. And our Criteo team has been nominated for its integrated marketing campaign – A Portrait of Performance, which looked at the pleasure of mobile shopping in the UK. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a big win on May 23rd, so watch this space!
WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO
We had some exciting team news this week! Our netball team, the Bostock Ballers, have only gone and won their league! It’s only their second season playing together, and after finishing near the bottom of the table last season, they’ve had a storming come back and smashed it this time round. The team rewarded themselves and their fantastic fighting spirit with a cheeky Nando’s – the food of champions. And if that wasn’t enough success for one week, the football team, Athletico NBG, also fought hard to win their last match of the season 5-2, seeing them return to their rightful place in the Premier League (division 1). Huge congrats to both our sporting teams, and we can’t wait to see what the next season (and higher divisions) bring!
